Maddie graduated summa cum laude from UCLA in 2019, majoring in English with a focus on
critical theory and postmodern literature. While in the honors program at UCLA, Maddie began
tutoring her classmates, developing as an editor and discovering a love of teaching in the process.
After college, Maddie worked as a literature instructor with the Institute of Reading Development
(IRD), teaching students from preschool through college across the country. At IRD, Maddie quickly became one of the principal instructors on staff, helping to train hundreds of teachers every year. She also created and piloted a new curriculum designed to keep students engaged and invested in their reading and writing in the digital age.
Alongside her passion for teaching, Maddie continues to invest in her own writing, editing, and
creative practices. Since graduation, she has worked consistently as a freelance writer, editor, and fine artist throughout the Los Angeles area.
As a voracious reader and writer, Maddie knows that her passion for learning has led to all her
greatest successes in life—professionally, academically, and interpersonally. She loves to extend that passion to her students, helping them to find a joy in learning that will aid them in the classroom and beyond.
Outside of work, Maddie can be found running (usually training for a marathon), reading, sketching at the park with her dog, Gonzo, or at the movies.
