Melika earned her degree in Neurobiology from UCI, graduating at the top of her class after receiving a full scholarship because of her high school academic achievements. She is fascinated by the intricacies of the brain and was recently published in the Journal of Neuroscience for her research studying the effects of space radiation on mice.
Throughout college, Melika found equal joy in learning and in teaching. Her ability to explain and simplify seemingly impenetrable scientific concepts resulted in her recruitment into a prestigious UCI Teaching Program. After completing extensive training and mentorship from experienced UCI professors, she independently taught two university courses through this program.
Melika’s students appreciate her humorous, bubbly personality and her skills in illustrating biology concepts in intriguing, memorable ways. Melika also knows and understands the rigorous and competing demands that face high school students today: she took 11 AP courses in high school and had a jam-packed college schedule that included rigorous coursework, internships at medical clinics, and a research fellowship studying Alzheimer’s, learning, and memory. Melika loves teaching her students time management and organizational skills that will help them in high school, college, and beyond.
